Jessie Ware's First Solo Gig

12th Apr, 2012

Last night I played my first headline show in an amazing venue in London called the Nave.  It is a Steiner school by day, but as if by magic, it was transformed into the most exciting place to perform!

I didn't think I was nervous until my mum and I started arguing over how my hair should look (she wasn't happy with the bun).  I got to the venue and everything was being set up; lights, the stage, posters and possibly the best touch of the night...the free bar that no one knew about!!!  I don't know how I will top that for my next gig!  My dressing room was a classroom and was the cutest dressing room with the tiniest chairs and full of handmade arts and crafts from sewing kits to easter baskets and painted eggs.

Two Inch Punch was supporting me and played a whole 45 minutes of his own wonderful tunes, which all sounded so great.  Whilst he was playing my friends Avigail and Damian came and supplied me with Armani blue fur stoles, Fancy shoes and killer earrings and then the nerves subsided and i felt like I was playing dress up and was ready to perform!

The gig itself was extremely special.  I was so worried that I was going to forget to enjoy it and just rush through the set and it all be a blur, however, I will never forget how incredible it felt to be playing to a room full of people that had come to see us play!  And how special it was to be playing in such a grand venue, and how we smashed it!!  My band were so on point and killed it and it was only right that Dave Okumu come up for the last two songs, No To Love and Running.  His rap debut happened last night, which I am very happy to have witnessed!

I could see familiar faces such as Julio Bashmore, my boyfriend, my cousins and friends, but there was a whole load of smiling strangers that made me feel so excited and comfortable performing the album to them.

I can't thank Red Bull enough for helping out on my first headline show - it felt like a real moment that I will never forget!!

Gush over.  On to the next one!!
